Abstract: The article offers examples of different cultural and civilizational conceptions of time. The text is based on classical anthropological and cultural-historical works. It shows that people in different periods and religions have formed and adopted either pessimistic or optimistic conceptions of their own epoch, or even of the development and direction of humanity, including ideas about its end.
