Abstract: The analysis of final test and oral examination results from 2010-2023, as well as presentations of teaching and testing forms resulting from meetings of university cartography teachers indicate not only the risks but also the potential associated with teaching cartography. In addition to the critical issues in the undergraduate cartography curriculum, similar issues emerge in the cartographic preparation of students across the spectrum of undergraduate programmes, disciplines and graduate profiles. This can also be seen as development opportunity, for despite the partially different role of cartography and other differences, common goals across the potential platform of cartography teachers can be identified. The paper introduces the reader to the conclusions of the above analysis and presentation of teaching
