Abstract: The aim of the article is to present and evaluate several methodological techniques available to measure and cartographically depict the elementary school service in a region. The Přerov district in Moravia was selected as a study area. In the district, a relatively dense network of elementary schools is available, which is composed of either comprehensive nine-year schools, or particularly, small rural schools with only several grades. In the article the schools’ incidence and capacity are analyzed with regard to their future potential development. Several hierarchical levels of school centers are discussed and identified.
