Economic-geographical Maps in School Atlases: Comparative Analysis and Proposal of Solution / Petr Trahorsch / Supervisor: Jan D. Bláha / Diploma Thesis / 2016 / Complete Thesis
Abstract:: This thesis deals with the analyses (evaluation) of economic maps in the Czech and foreign school atlases of the world. Based on analysis was suggested map key for maps of mining mineral resources. In the evaluation of economic maps was found, that the quality of the Czech maps are growing. In compared to foreign maps was found, that Czech economic maps are characterized by high quality although the quality of the particular maps is vary considerably. The suitability of the newly proposed map key was tested on the primary school and on the secondary school. And then was compared newly suggested conception of map key with conception from publisher Kartografie Praha. Based on questionnaire survey and didactic test it was found that newly suggested cartographic signs are easily identifiable for elementary school students than signs of Kartografie Praha. Conversely, success rate of identification of newly suggested signs get worse at students of the secondary school. From interviews with teachers of geography showed that they find the current concept of the map key of the Kartografie Praha for unsuitable for their students. Associativity colours with mining mineral resources and type of the industry isn´t differ significantly between primary school and secondary school students.
